Sweetheart Abbey is located in Dumfries & Galloway Scotland, UK. The above photograph of the Abbey Ruins was taken during the Edwardian times and shows the abbey and grounds which was founded in 1273 by Lady Devorgilla of Galloway in memory of her late husband John Balliol, when she died his heart was embalmed and placed in a chest of silver and ivory and buried next to her, their son John went on to be king of Scotland for only a short reign |
