Threave Castle is located in Castle Douglas Dumfries & Galloway Scotland, UK. The above photograph of the castle ruins was taken during the Edwardian times. The castle is situated on a small island in the river Dee and was built in the 1300's, from the late end of the 14th century the castle was the seat of power of Earls of Douglas nicknamed the black earls, at one point of its history the castle was used to house prisoners from the Napoleonic Wars |
